Falmouth is located just north of Portland on the coast of Maine. It has a population of about 11,000 people, and covers nearly 36 square miles from the coastline to rural areas further inland.
Falmouth is a vibrant, independent community that provides most services to
citizens itself; cooperative agreements with regional agencies and
neighboring communities help fill in the gaps.
At approximately 100 acres Mackworth Island is connected to the mainland by a causeway at the mouth of the Presumpscot River. Today it is home to a state school for the deaf and hard of hearing.
