A Changing Population

The Portland region grew 0.3% in population during the last one-year period, 2010-11; the national benchmark regions stayed essentially flat, while Maine increased by 1.2%, and New England grew by a modest 0.3%.

Population Changes

From 2006-11, the population of the Portland MSA increased by 0.7%, while the national benchmark cities increased by 3.5%, Maine ncreased by 1.1%, and New England increased
by 1.0%. From 2001-11, the population of the ortland region grew by 4.1%, which was much slower than the national benchmark regions (10.1%), but faster than the State of Maine (3.4%) and New England (2.9%).
