South Portland Maine Real Estate Schools and Educational Services
South Portland is a growing and dynamic schools system. It's five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school serve approximately 3,100 students in grades K-12. With the opening of the 2005-2006 school year, the city celebrated the completion of the renovation of all of the district's elementary schools. South Portland has an enormous volunteer program, with more than 800 community member volunteers involved in the schools, and a full time volunteer coordinator overseeing the program.
Community members sit on curriculum and building committees, on hiring committees and on the design and advisory teams for the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. South Portland CASA works closely with the school system to provide education and programming for safe and drug free schools. Maine Continuing Education Both the University of Maine System and the Maine Community College System are autonomous entities with all policy, procedures and administrative oversight vested in their respective boards of trustees. Similarly, Maine´s private higher education institutions are governed by their own oversight boards. The University of Southern Maine is the largest of the seven campuses of the University of Maine System, as well as one of the oldest, with its founding in Gorham in 1878. USM is a major educational force in the overall growth and improvement of the economic, civic, social, and cultural fabric of southern Maine. From its campuses in Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston, USM offers baccalaureate, master's, and Ph.D. degree programs, providing students with rich learning opportunities in the arts, humanities, politics, health sciences, business, mass communications, science, engineering, and technology.
Located in the town of Orono along the banks of the Stillwater River, the University of Maine offers a strong traditional education at an affordable price. UMaine is one of New England's premier universities. Founded in 1865, The University of Maine offers 88 bachelor's degree programs, 64 master's degree programs, and 25 doctoral programs. The library is ranked among the top in the country, and Honors College programs is one the nation's oldest and most prestigious. Since 1923, graduate work has been a separate division of the University. Today the master's degree is offered in over 60 areas of study and the doctorate in 26 areas. The Graduate School serves the needs of the over 2300 graduate students enrolled at the Orono campus.
