Just across the bridge from Portland is the coastal community of South Portland.  The city is the fourth largest in the state, yet has a very personal and intimate feel.  Within the city limits you will find great diversity, including a welcoming and walkable downtown area, a fantastic public beach, a commitment to outdoor activities, several marinas, excellent dining, a strong business environment and of course the Maine Mall.

Just about everywhere you are, the feel of the ocean is all around you – yet surprisingly when it comes to waterfront real estate, your options can be limited.

8 Anchorage Place

8 Anchorage PlaceAnchorage Place in South Portland is one of the most desirable waterfront communities in the greater Portland area. Located adjacent to South Port marina, this elegant townhome development  provides privacy, great views of Portland Harbor and naturally easy access to boating activities.

Join Laura for a tour of this great property as she highlights many of its outstanding custom features and recent upgrades. There are three floors of elegant living space and two large decks overlooking the marina.  It is waterfront living at its finest.

Meet the Owners

Anchorage Place Interview For over a decade, Cathy and Chris Brigham have enjoyed calling 8 Anchorage Place and South Portland home.

In this short interview with Laura they reflect on what makes their townhome and the local community so special – not only to them – but to anyone thinking about starting a new chapter in their lives.

Putting their townhome on the market was a difficult decision, but they are hoping new owners will love the area just as much as they have.

South Portland – A Great Place to Live

South Portland On a recent beautiful summer day our very own Julia Langham  put together this tour of South Portland, checking out some of Cathy & Chris’s favorite spots.

Right down the street, within walking distance, is the Snow Squall – a casual, neighborhood restaurant that focuses on local Maine ingredients.  Don’t miss the haddock chowder – and of course Sunday brunch.  You can keep your boat right at South Port Marina, which provides priority to Anchorage Place owners – you can’t beat having your boat in your backyard!

Right in Knighstville, don’t miss CIA Cafe for early morning coffee – right before your jog or trip to the office  BTW, middle brownies are always best!  Also within walking distance, at Millcreek Plaza, is Shaws Grocery, along with several other shopping options.

Willard Beach, near the campus of Southern Maine Community College, is a local summer hangout.  Not only is it great for swimming; the panoramic views of Casco Bay are breathtaking. Near by is Scratch Baking Company, home of the “best bagels in Portland – or maybe the World”.

When it comes to the combination of great views and fresh fish, you can’t beat the Saltwalter Grille.  Taking in the lights of Portland Harbor and the city skyline with a glass of Chardonnay in hand is a perfect way to end any day.

If you like local theater, Portland Players should be on your list (maybe you will see Julia on stage at an upcoming performance). Keep updated with their online box office for announcements – and audition updates.  Right nearby is Davids 388.  The sister restaurant to David’s in Portland’s Art’s District, it is owned and skillfully operated by David Turin – one of Maine most accomplished chef’s.  David is fond of saying his intimate South Portland location is built “by the Chef, for the Chef.”

Another great spot is North 43 Bistro, near Bug Light and Spring Point Marina (the home of Port Harbor Maine).  With great views of the waterfront and the marina, Joe Loring & Nate Chalaby have been serving fresh seafood since 1992 in a casual, laid-back atmosphere.

No hot summer day is complete without a stop at Red’s Dairy Freeze. Dating back to 1952, Red’s is a local institution.  A minty grasshopper shake is always refreshing!
