184 Bolton Street

Preserved 1922 Colonial

Portland is a unique city that has a small town feel and big city sophistication. Surrounded by water and extending into Casco Bay, Portland offers some of the best water access to islands, historic forts and lighthouses in Maine. The downtown area is well known as a thriving business and cultural center with tasty restaurants and a thriving cultural community. It is also a city of neighborhoods, and Deering Highlands is one of them. Centrally located and quiet, Deering Highlands is a very desirable place to live. Luckily, we have a house for sale there!

Exceptional Details

The first thing you notice upon entering 184 Bolton is how awed you are by the period details. The jaw drops at how well preserved and maintained they are. Coffered ceilings with oak beams and solid wood paneling surrounding the living room walls are just a few of the many vintage characteristics in this home. Solid wood doors, glass doorknobs, and original wood flooring encompass the interior of this home.

Substantial Rooms

When you think of a place for your Thanksgiving meal, this home definitely comes to mind. The dining room accommodates a very large table, plus, you could have a sideboard, bookshelves, whatever your fancy. A built-in china cabinet and uniquely trimmed windows add to the charm. The living room is also quite large with beautiful wood floors, a huge bay window, and so many built-in bookshelves, you can house your own library. Sitting with a cup of tea and one of those books while sitting out a snow storm will be very cozy affair as you light up the wood burning fireplace and warm your toes.

The kitchen in this home, while needing updating, is still very cool and unique. The wood cabinetry, rounded counters and many nooks and crannies allow for good storage. There is a sweet, sunny breakfast nook for sharing your muffins and reading the paper. Does anyone read the paper anymore? You also have access to the back staircase, the outdoors, and the basement from the kitchen. A new 1/2 bath rounds out the first floor.

Upstairs Flow

There are two staircases to the upstairs, meeting in the middle, and topping off on a nice, wide landing. Here you will find the 4 bedrooms and full bath. The original wood floors continue up here and light pours in the windows. Three of the bedrooms are large and accommodating and bright. The 4th bedroom, (the town does lists this home as a 4 bedroom) is small and sweet. It does not have a closet, but it is perfect for a baby's room, or, if you so desire, a really, large walk-in closet! This is what I would do, but I am not buying the house.

Out of Doors

The well-landscaped sidewalks and front and back yards of 184 Bolton are filled with perennials and bursting with color. The back yard has a sweet bamboo fence and currently houses a fire pit, and bird bath (they do not convey), and a lovely spot to sit and read a book. It's so nice to have outdoor space when you live in the city. It's a great place to unwind after you trudge home from work.

184 Bolton Street is a beautifully maintained, vintage colonial in a very desirable neighborhood of Portland. Call today for a private showing.
