46 Thornhurst Road

Sophisticated Elegance

Falmouth, Maine is located just north of Portland on the coast of.  It has a population of about 11,000 people and covers approximately 32 square miles from the coastline to the rural areas further inland. Falmouth is a vibrant town consisting of a local harbor and town landing, indoor and outdoor skating facilities, shopping, golf courses, a medical center and so much more.

The Falmouth school system is ranked as one of the best in the state, providing services for K-12.

The Foreside

The Falmouth Foreside is one of those locations in which everyone wants to live. But only a few are able. Whether on the ocean side, or the 'other' side, the Foreside is beautiful and inviting. With a neighborhood feel and a summer time allure, this area has that small town feel yet is so very close to Portland. Down many of the winding roads on the ocean side are stately homes with lovely views and access to our great Casco Bay. Luckily, 46 Thornhurst is one of those homes. Although, I would not call this home stately. This home is warm and interesting, open and airy. There is nothing stuffy about this seamless blend of traditional and contemporary.

The Home

As you drive the curious dirt road down to the end, you wonder, what is down this long driveway? And then it becomes evident. You are greeted with a unique home on an absolutely lovely setting of over 2 1/2 acres with water views. Completely unexpected, the first things you notice are the exceptionally large windows and interesting architecture of the 'newer' part of the home. The landscaping is superb and a small water feature with babbling waterfall greets you as you ascend the walkway to enter the home. A screened in porch - essential for living in Maine in the summer - is spacious and necessary! The updated kitchen in 2014, is a stunner. Crisp and clean, the subway tile, soft close cabinetry, honed granite, and stainless appliances are just perfect. Off the kitchen is the mudroom and laundry. There is also the living room directly off the kitchen. This room boasts pumpkin pine floors and a lot of serenity.

The New

You know that feeling you get when you walk into a room and your breath is taken away? Well, walking out of the kitchen and into the contemporary family room is one of those moments. You see the floor to ceiling windows, the crisp, white, gallery-like walls, the gas fireplace, the hardwood floors, and, of course, the view of Casco Bay. There are any number of places to sit here: cozy up to the fireplace, sit and gaze at the view, have a dinner party in the dining area - a versatile room for everyone's needs. There is also access to the patio from the family room where, again, you can sit and gaze at the view.

The magnificent master bedroom is on the first floor. An office with built in everything is the pass through to the Master. Another "oh my" moment will escape you as you see the layout and view from this room. So many 'water views' from bedrooms are only seen standing up. This view is gaze-able from the bed. Lying down! An unusually long, fabulous window acts as your headboard here. And the two walk-in closets? Oh my! A place for everything and everything in its place. The en suite boasts a poured concrete double vanity, a large steam shower, and (another) place to sit in front of the floor to ceiling window. Don't worry, there are no neighbors to take a peak!

The Old

The original part of the home, which is a true New Englander with pumpkin pine floors, contains 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths - fully, elegantly, updated. There is another first floor bedroom here, which is in close approximation to the one of the full baths. Up the traditional stairwell, you are greeted by 3 more bedrooms plus a sitting area for playing, reading, or officing. One of the bedrooms can act as a second master. There is an en suite that has a door to the hallway as well. This master has a private deck! Imagine having your morning coffee on the deck listening to the waterfall and taking in the ocean smells! A nice way to wake up for sure.

Take a Look Inside...

The Rest

This unique, uncompromising home has so much to offer. Not only is it somewhat secluded and nestled into its own corner, it is also just 7 minutes to downtown Portland. Commuting is a breeze. There is a two car garage, full basement, and a driveway big enough for a basketball hoop. The yard is beautiful, peaceful, and having the bay right there is the best part of it all. If you are someone who appreciates a home filled with character, then 46 Thornhurst, with its successful blend of old and new, in an exclusively unparalleled part of Falmouth, must be seen by you. Please give us a call to day for a private showing.
