Knox County is in mid-coast Maine with Rockland as its county seat, and includes the town of Camden, a popular summer destination. The dramatic combination of mountains and rocky coast, islands, lighthouses, inland hills and blueberry fields, provides a beautiful setting and many recreational opportunities. Shipbuilding, lime processing, granite quarrying, commercial fishing and lobstering have all figured in Rockland´s industrial past.
This area of the coast is famous for its lobsters. Knox County hosts a Lobster Festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival each summer. Knox County is in the Rockland metro area. The estimated population in 2004 was 41,008 representing an increase of 3.51% from the 2000 census. In 2002, the per capita personal income in Knox County was $29,390. This was an increase of 32.4% from 1997. The 2002 figure was 95% of the national per capita income, which was $30,906. Local area festivals include: Friendship Sloop Days, The Maine Lobster Festival, The Maine Lobster Ride & Roll and The North Atlantic Blues Festival.
